Earlier this spring, I planted a bunch of corn and peas, with very disappointing results. We had way too much rain the day after I planted those seeds, and the corn never came up. Three pea plants (out of two whole packages of seeds!!) came up, but due to guerrilla rabbit tactics, none of them lasted long. Plus, due to all the rain, I was left with an abundance of weeds in that spot and a whole lot of nothing else. Here’s what it looked like:
So, I spent a couple of hours out in the garden, pulling weeds and hoeing until my arms ached. I strung up some yarn to mark rows for some new sweet corn seeds. Let’s hope they’ll come up! Here’s the ironic part: It’s supposed to rain all day today!!

O.k., we have a competition going with growing weeds! I am dealing with the same thing and have posted about it, detailing on new tools bought to staring down at the corn weeding for several hours! I am in with ya sista! So today I will be in the garden later, trying to find the beets! They seem totake a long time to germinate and try to ditinguish them from the weeds, slight purple color on the edge of the leaf. Oi! Anyway, this morning my Tackle it Tuesday is my craft/knit area which I am yarn jumkie and need to curb the addiction by organizing what I have.
Nice blog, I will definitely be a frequent reader. Stop by some time!

Just remember, alot of women go to the gym to work their arms to get the workout you are getting in your garden for free and hopefully your reward will be fresh veggies.
Thanks for sharing.

Wow! I’m impressed! I’m not brave enough to do a real garden. I’m sticking with square foot gardening for now until my thumb turns a little more green.
